RUB-Cert

The RUB-Cert, the Computer Emergency Response Team of Ruhr University Bochum, serves as the central point of contact for all technical and operational matters related to information security. The goal of RUB-Cert is to ensure a high level of IT security and to actively protect the university, its members, and its infrastructure from security threats. Through a comprehensive approach and targeted prevention, detection, and response measures, RUB-Cert supports the secure operation of all IT resources, helps minimize security risks, and enables early identification and mitigation of potential threats.

The core tasks of RUB-Cert include:

• Prevention: By conducting comprehensive analyses of the current threat landscape and performing regular vulnerability scans, RUB-Cert contributes to risk reduction. Early identification of potential vulnerabilities and targeted security assessments are essential measures to prevent IT security incidents.

• Detection: RUB-Cert continuously monitors and evaluates security-related events. This involves analyzing security-relevant information from various IT security systems and preparing situation reports and recommendations for action to facilitate the early detection of threats.

• Response: In the event of a security incident, RUB-Cert coordinates all necessary actions to respond quickly and effectively, minimizing the impact. This includes investigating and handling security incidents as well as collaborating with internal and external partners to address root causes and prevent future attacks.

RUB-Cert is authorized to regularly conducts vulnerability scans and security assessments.
